What I Did On My Summer Vacation, by Koda

A long time ago, we stopped going to the dog park every day to see my friends. No real explanation from my humans. Typical. They started wearing things on their faces, too. So I thought my summer would be a big bust. Nothing but hanging around the house. But I was wrong!

We took a very loooong car ride and I saw lots of new things. I hated the hotel room because I heard strange noises out in the hall all night long. And the next night, we slept in a big van. But that was only the beginning. Besides New Mexico, I got to see Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Wyoming and Colorado (but that last one I’ve been to before).

I got to smell my first cornfield ever. That was in Iowa. Just so you know, they have lots of corn there.

My most favorite thing ever was getting to go on this floaty thing that went on the water. The humans called it a pontoon boat. I just couldn’t believe it! It was the most fun ever.

I don’t know why, but my mom wanted me to sit in this really big chair. So… I got up on the really big chair. I didn’t see what the big deal was. We did NOT go to a pickle factory, though. That, I would have remembered.

We went to a strange place where the ground was full of mounds and hills and I don’t know what they were, if I’m being honest. All I know is that I was kept on a very tight leash. I saw tiny little dogs that popped up out of the ground everywhere. What the what?

All this time we were still sleeping in the big van. It took me a while to get used to it and to figure out where the best sleeping spot for me was. But I loved being outside so much. So many new smells and things to see. It was exhausting, really.

At campsites, I am allowed to be on a longer leash, but still not completely free (my biggest problem is trying not to get tangled around trees and rocks). I tried to catch some bees one time but no luck. They are crazy little buggers.

My favorite thing ever was getting to see other four-legged friends. The big rule was I couldn’t dare get too close to the buffalo. I had a staring contest with one big guy, though. You can see us in the picture below. There were also dopey looking burros. They just looked like horses to me. And I was pretty spooked to see a huge buffalo at some famous drug store we went to in South Dakota.

I had lots of fun seeing so much water. We don’t have anything like that around our boring house. I know I wasn’t supposed to, but I drank a little of the water at some of the places. Shhhh!

One time when we were in Colorado, there was a squirrel that just would not let me catch him. Arrrgggghhh! You can see me try in this video.

I took the humans with me to the Dog Bar — a place just for dogs! I think they had a good time. At least it looked like they did. They didn’t even embarrass me, either. Going there was my favorite thing ever, and I was happy to have a place I could bring them.

I tasted my first sand at a place with freakin’ huge piles of sand! I really didn’t like the taste of it at all, but don’t tell my humans. After the stink I made about eating it, they would never let me live it down if they knew I didn’t like it.

Oh, I also got to see some cool looking tents, called teepees, I think. Those were near Taos.

I did lots of other fun things this summer, too. And I liked just chillin’ with my humans. They are the best (at least most of the time).

The end. Woof, woof.

What a fun summer! Loved your bee chase! It’s sad when dogs have more fun than me. SO much more fun…
