Grand Mesa, Colorado

In the nine years of living in the Southwest, we’ve explored a lot of ground. We’ve seen much of Colorado, our neighbor to the north. But one area we had not seen was Grand Mesa, in the western part of the state. So last week we took a trip to see it.

Trinidad Rodeo — Yee Ha!

Earlier this month, we drove about 3-1/2 hours to Trinidad, Colorado to take in a small-town rodeo. The 111th Annual Trinidad Round Up might make it seem like a bigger deal than it is, but it is definitely a small-town affair. That’s also what makes it entertaining.

Elephant Butte Lake

After what seems like years, we finally got on the road again. It was just a short trip, but enough for us to feel like we got out and went somewhere. It had been so long, we had to remember how to work some of the systems in the van.

No Aliens Were Encountered. Maybe Next Time….

We left the beautiful Custer State Park and made our way over the state line into Wyoming to cross another item off our bucket lists: Devil’s Tower. It is also known by other names given to it by the Native Americans, such as Bear’s Tipi, Home of the Bears, Bear’s Lodge, and a few others. The bear-related names arise from one legend that a giant bear clawed grooves into the mountainside…
